Report by Service Chairperson Wee Wan Joo on Special Workshop for Project Pari [PP] girls held on Sat 19th May 2018.

An Art Journaling Workshop was organised in collaboration with Netherlands Charity Association [NCA] in joint celebration of their 50th anniversary and PP's 10th anniversary.

NCA invited Gloria Keh, a distinguished artist who develops workshops and conduct courses on the art of keeping art journals. Gloria says, “The session offers a relaxing and meditative activity that is much needed in the high tech and super paced world we live in today -- A world often synonymous with multi tasking and keeping up with an array of physical, mental and emotional demands; tall challenges that keep on piling up, one after the other. Besides expressing oneself, art journaling steers one off the busyness of the day and into the realm of the calm.” (read more about Gloria's work at her website)

Our Club managed to secure free use of premises at St Luke's ElderCare [SLEC] Ayer Rajah Centre. Zontians who were present, were given a tour of the premises by SLEC’s friendly manager, Windsy.

A total number of 35 students accompanied by 3 teachers from Woodlands Secondary School, Tanglin Secondary School and Marsiling Secondary School participated. President Sheila and Marlies were among the 3 ladies from NCA. Representing the Zonta Club were Julia Woo, Cheong Swee Ying, Malathi Das, Lynnette Ee, Teo Peklyn and Wee Wan Joo. We were pleased to have 3 volunteers - Arti Daryanani, (Gloria’s friend who assisted with the workshop supervision), Janice Wee and Nina Ramesh (2 friends who assisted with the purchase of colouring materials, food and drinks, and helped with the general setup).

The PP girls and adult participants were guided by Gloria throughout the session from 10 am to 3pm and all had loads of fun. Gloria guided them through various forms of visualisation, expression, and circle art. The PP girls were also encouraged to share their thoughts and expressions for each piece of their artwork. We witnessed some amazing works! We were indeed enlightened after the workshop. Our grateful thanks go to Gloria for conducting the entire session on a pro bono basis.

In the true spirit of giving, Gloria donated 80 note books to the workshop participants. The notebooks were specially designed by Gloria with both logos of PP (10th anniversary) and NCA (50th anniversary) printed on the back cover of the book. The excess notebooks will be distributed to the PP girls who were unable to attend the workshop.

Arti Daryanani kindly donated 10 sets of colouring materials. A brisk lucky draw was conducted and 10 lucky winners went home with a set each.

At the end of the day, the mood was upbeat as the girls headed home. One of the girls even asked to hug Gloria and she naturally obliged!
