Area 2 Meeting, January 2013, Kuala Lumpur

Zonta Club of Singapore showed their strong support for the Area 2 Meeting which was held in Kuala Lumpur on 12 January 2013. Eleven Zontians from the Singapore Club were present for the meeting that took place at the Top Hat Restaurant.

Nine clubs from Area 2 (7 from Hong Kong, 2 from Malaysia and Singapore) gave a 10-min report each on their activities for the past quarter. Many of us were especially moved by Dr. Pushpa Ratnam, founding member of the Kuantan Club, whose determination and passion to revive a fledging Kuantan Club truly manifested the Zonta spirit.

Shanti, who has been an advocate for Women’s rights for the past 40 years, shared some statistics on the overall ranking of women contributing to the economic growth across the world.

Following her remarks, four Zonta Club members, including our own Singapore Zonta 1st VP Tan Ter Yee, participated in a panel discussion on “Balancing Work and Life”. They shared insights into legislation in their respective countries that have helped women to stay or return to the workforce. They also shared their personal stories of struggles, strategies, and motivation that has helped them to juggle the roles of being a mother, wife and career woman.

Rounding off the fellowship, was a sumptuous dinner at Top Hat.
